CREATIVE LEARNING / ZOMERFESTIVAL IMAGINE IC

Jonge inwoners van Amsterdam Zuidoost zijn uitgenodigd voor diverse workshops in het Zomerfestival van Imagine IC. Bij ‘Digitaal Verhaal’ leren ze een script te maken en dat te verfilmen. In de ScratchWorx workshop maken ze in vier sessies kennis met alle facetten van een DJ/VJ-productie. Het resultaat tonen de deelnemers in een live show aan de Scratch-console. De workshops worden verzorgd door Waag Society in samenwerking met de Educatieve Faculteit Amsterdam.

Een 1-daagse workshop over het gebruik van Creative Commons-licenties voor contentproducenten. De workshop is geschikt voor mensen die eigen content onder een CC-licentie ter beschikking willen stellen of die gebruik willen maken van content die een CC-licentie heeft.De workshop wordt georganiseerd door Waag Society en Nederland Kennisland, die onlangs in het kader van DISC (Domein voor Innovatieve Software en Content) samen met het Instituut voor Informatierecht de vertaling van de Amerikaanse CC-licenties naar het Nederlands recht initieerden.

The alert, from the US Computer Emergency Response Team, comes as a blow to the global giant Microsoft, which has fought successfully to retain its dominance of the browser market – 95 per cent of internet surfers currently use IE.

The team, which advises the US government and is a senior authority on Net weaknesses, said that flaws in the software expose users to criminals who can spy on their activities, steal their personal details or send junk e-mail from their computers without them knowing.

It said internet users should consider dumping the Microsoft software – which comes as standard installed on PCs – and switching to another web browser, such as the free Mozilla or commercial Opera products.

THEY RULE
They Rule aims to provide a glimpse of some of the relationships of the US ruling class. It takes as its focus the boards of some of the most powerful U.S. companies, which share many of the same directors. Some individuals sit on 5, 6 or 7 of the top 500 companies. It allows users to browse through these interlocking directories and run searches on the boards and companies. A user can save a map of connections complete with their annotations and email links to these maps to others. They Rule is a starting point for research about these powerful individuals and corporations.

Specual issue: Mapping Knowledge Domains: The World Wide Web provides a unprecedented opportunity to automatically analyze a large sample of interests and activity in the world. We discuss methods for extracting knowledge from the web by randomly sampling and analyzing hosts and pages, and by analyzing the link structure of the web and how links accumulate over time. A variety of interesting and valuable information can be extracted, such as the distribution of web pages over domains, the distribution of interest in different areas, communities related to different topics, the nature of competition in different categories of sites, and the degree of communication between different communities or countries.
